Damian Montano enjoys a diverse career as a composer of both concert music and music for film & television. He has been funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and has been commissioned by orchestras throughout the country, including the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and the Houston Symphony. His works have additionally been performed by ensembles such as the National Symphony, Long Beach Symphony, Santa Monica Symphony, Northwestern University Chamber Orchestra, University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana Wind Symphony, and the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. As a film/tv composer, recent credits include scoring music for the film Steam, starring Ruby Dee and Ally Sheedy, and music for the complete series of NBC’s Emmy-winning daytime reality drama Starting Over.
As an instrumentalist, Damian is a member of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and has performed with numerous other Southern California orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the San Diego Symphony. As a recording artist for motion picture scores, he has performed on films such as Spider-man 3, Hancock, Wanted, Step Brothers, Bolt, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. He has been featured as soloist with the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra and the University of Southern California’s Wind Symphony, subsequent to winning each ensemble’s Concerto Competition with a work that he composed. He has also been featured twice as soloist in performances of his Concerto for Piccolo and Contrabassoon.
